Surveying the history of the United States from Reconstruction to the present, this course integrates an array of perspectives concerning the evolution of modern America. In particular, it investigates historical struggles over issues that continue to shape our world, including gender roles, conceptions of race, civil rights, war, economic inequality, citizenship and the power of government in American society.
