LEAD 230 - Leadership and Social Identity

3 Hour(s)

In this course, students will examine concepts of social identity, the ways in which individuals think about themselves, and others based on social groupings, with a particular focus on gender, feminism, intersectionality, and inclusive leadership locally, nationally, and internationally. The following are some of the questions the professor and students will explore: How does one’s identity affect the ways in which one sees themselves as a leader and those they are leading? What does it mean to identify as a woman and a leader? What are the particular social, political, and intercultural dilemmas and challenges women in leadership, or aspiring leaders, face? What are emerging movements in inclusive leadership and how do they fit into the historical conversation about gender and leadership? How do these questions and issues affect the health of women and the health of our communities? This course provides a broad introduction to the study of women in leadership through readings, case studies, and guest speakers. (Please see attached file for Student Learning Outcomes.)
