ENGL 075 - Literary Constraint: Explorations of Power, Punishment, Surveillance, & Justice

3 Hour(s)

The course offers an introduction to using literature to analyze culture and systems of power in early modern and modern society. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, students will contend with scholarly materials and primary sources that require them to think across traditional academic boundaries. Their writing will press on these boundaries, and student work and class discussion will frequently consider the impact of our investigations outside of a traditional academic space. This course will allow students to demonstrate their proficiency as critical readers and writers, and apply concepts beyond the classroom. (WI)
