HHMN 215 - Disability and Gender 3 Hour(s)
Introduces the multidisciplinary field of disability studies with particular attention to gender. Students will explore how understandings and experiences of disability have been positioned in various frameworks, including political, legal, literary, rhetorical, artistic, educational, medical, and religious. They will examine how culture, community and self-advocacy create alternatives to longstanding discriminatory systems and to medical or charity-oriented models of disability.
