MUSI 105 - Women in Music

An exploration of the ways in which women have navigated and contributed to the musical world, including their roles as composers, performers and conductors of western art music, their roles as performing artists, songwriters and producers in popular music, and their contributions to music as a function of society. Students will examine how perceptions of women in music have changed over time and in different societies, as well as how women have faced discrimination and prejudice in the industry. Open to non-majors.
