A historical and literary study of the writings of the earliest followers of Jesus of Nazareth, with attention to how the movement developed within the Greco-Roman world and first-century Judaism. The interconnections of gender, social status, ethics, and group formation will be explored, as well as diverse ancient views of redemption, healing, and wholeness.
