A historical and literary study of the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) in the context of ancient cultures and empires. The course explores how ancient devotion to God or gods and views of the human place in the cosmos were connected to clan, ethnicity, gender, and social status. Ancient views of community and justice are explored, alongside concepts of the sacred.
