SALEM 130 - Transitions: A First Year Seminar

3 Hour(s)

In this small seminar for transfer and part-time students, students explore socially significant issues and cultivate critical thinking and communication skills. Students develop their abilities to write analytically, to read challenging material, to discuss complex questions, to work collaboratively, and to communicate effectively. They are introduced to ways of thinking and discussing that are valued at Salem and that matter for engaged citizens, such as ethical inquiry, gender inquiry, and intercultural competence. While the theme or topic of the seminar varies in different years, the course consistently engages concepts of health as it prepares students for the academic success that leads to professional success. (Although this introductory course does entail writing assignments, it does not meet the general education requirement for a writing intensive course.)
