SALEM 110 - First Year Seminar 3 Hour(s)
In small seminars conducted by their faculty advisors, students explore socially significant issues and cultivate critical thinking and communication skills. Students develop their abilities to write analytically, to read challenging material, to discuss complex questions, to work collaboratively, and to communicate effectively. They are introduced to ways of thinking and discussing that are valued at Salem and that matter for engaged citizens, such as ethical inquiry, gender inquiry, and intercultural competence. While different sections of the first-year seminar explore distinct themes or topics, all engage concepts of health as they prepare students for the academic success that leads to professional success. Only first-year students may register for this course. (Although this introductory course does entail writing assignments, it does not meet the general education requirement for a writing intensive course.)
